The New Way to Talk Politics

Updated: Mar 1, 2022

What if when we talked politics, we talked about what the King of heaven (Jesus) was up to in His government?

Rather than the bad news on the radio, television, or social media that we usually see and hear, the kingdom of God is “good news.”

For example,

Bad news: Health care is expensive and people are sick, dying, and broke.

Good news: In Jesus’ government, healing is free because the King already paid for it with His own wounds.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this. --Isaiah 9:6‭-‬7 ESV

Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

--Isaiah 53:4-5 ESV

From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." --Matthew 4:17 ESV

And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. --Matthew 4:23‭-‬24 ESV

Pray then like this:  "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.  Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. --Matthew 6:9‭-‬10 ESV

That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: "He took our illnesses and bore our diseases." --Matthew 8:16‭-‬17 ESV

And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;  therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction. --Matthew 9:35-10:1 ESV

And proclaim as you go, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'  Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay. --Matthew 10:7‭-‬8 ESV

And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." --Matthew 28:18‭-‬20 ESV

What if we spent more time getting this good news into our hearts and minds rather than getting bent out of shape with bad news? How bad do we want the good news? How bad do we want the kingdom of God? How bad do we want heaven to invade earth?
