I just had a thought after waking up and the topic of dental insurance crossed my mind.
When talking to someone who uses filthy language, I imagined politely asking them the following:
Me: Can I ask you a personal question?
Other person: …What is it?
Me: How many cavities do you have?...
I was wondering if rottenness of teeth (which are bones) and/or gums are directly proportional to the words that proceed from one's mouth. From the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks. (See Matthew 12:33-37; 15:18-20). If one has rottenness or bitterness in their heart, it will come out in the words they speak. This rottenness in their soul (intellect, will, and emotions) due to unresolved hurt, offense, trauma, unforgiveness, lovelessness, etc. will manifest or result in rottenness in the physical body (or poor health).
Theoretically, one child can brush his/her teeth after every meal and floss daily yet have many cavities, while another child brushes his/her teeth only once a day and yet have no cavities. Why is that? Could it be that one child is more receptive to the grace of God (the free gift of the ability and power to trust and obey God), quick to forgive, sensitive to God's feelings, careful about the words he/she speaks, etc? While the child who appears to take better care of his/her teeth outwardly isn't resolving some inner rottenness that results in teeth rottenness?
To the child who is doing all the “right things” through human effort to take proper care of his/her teeth and yet is getting multiple cavities despite brushing and flossing the recommended amount, he/she could feel that life isn't fair, feeling envious of the child who only flosses once per day yet who gets no cavities. Could it be that this very envy, bitterness, or ungrateful attitude is what is causing his/her teeth (which are bones) to rot?
“A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.” --Proverbs 14:30 ESV
After a great deal of “case studies,” Dr. Henry Wright has observed how envy/jealousy truly is the “spiritual root cause” behind various forms of osteoporosis (rottenness of the bones). When his ministry coaches people to deal with themselves and to cut off that envy from their lives by replacing it with God's love, the osteoporosis goes away.
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant…” 1 Corinthians 13:4 ESV [emphasis mine]
Since love also does not boast and is not arrogant, then the child without the cavities cannot brag, boast, or rub that fact in the face of the child with the cavities, for to do so could accumulate in damaged relationships and eventually result in his/her own set of health problems down the line. (See 3 John 2; James 1:21; Proverbs 16:5; 8:13)
[Author/Editor's note: Since the inception of this blogpost, more research has confirmed the theory that envy can physiologically rot the bones of the teeth, thereby causing dental cavities. My initial confirmation came the teaching on envy from the "For My Life (Online)" course from the ministry of BeInHealth.]
